W&M sponsors 23 varsity sports that all compete at the Division I level. Our student athletes win conference titles and graduate at a higher rate than any other public university in the country. 

Additionally, W&M has a thriving club sports and intramural scene, a multimillion-dollar campus recreation center and countless opportunities for outdoor adventure. In total, 85% of our undergraduate students participate in athletic or recreation programs.

Tribe Athletics

W&M has more than 500 student athletes. Whether you play yourself or cheer from the stands, our championship teams include football, gymnastics, swimming, track & field and soccer. As a student, tickets to all sporting events are free!

Campus Recreation & Sports

Stay active by joining one of our club sport teams or intramural teams. You can also work with a personal trainer or sign up for a FitWell class to reach your fitness goals. Try yoga at Lake Matoaka, pilates in the McLeod Studio or a Bodypump class at the Rec.

Tribe Adventure Program

Love the outdoors? Join the Tribe Adventure Program (TAP) for affordable, student-led weekend trips like backpacking and dune gliding—open to all experience levels. Want to go solo? Campus Rec rents gear like tents, kayaks, and cornhole, available to all students.
